Based on the transcoding used, the black space in 1080p prints is just ignored and official resolution becomes 816p or 800p. But you would still call it 1080p. It just does not recognise the black space ( the one you find above and below the playing window) as part of the resolution. While in a 1080p, it is included a part of the resolution. The output resolution of the movie itself is same. 

Compare the screenshots of 1080p and 816p. You will not find the black area in 816p that you usually find in 1080p. I request mods to re-consider 1920x816 and 1920x800 as 1080p for this reason.
